An interesting and beautifully made Indian film MONSOON WEDDING is now showing around the Brisbane which may be interested to some Sri Lankans in Brisbane. MONSOON WEDDING is the winner of the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival 2001. An exuberant and hilarious family drama, MONSOON WEDDING the latest film from acclaimed director Mira Nair (Director of SALAAM BOMBAY, KAMA SUTRA and MISSISSIPPI MASALA) and is simultaneously a celebration of love and the sensual pleasures of beautiful cinema. MONSOON WEDDING is a vibrant film set in the Punjabi culture, where ancient tradition and dot-com modernity combine in unique and perfect harmony. The film follows an array of stories of love, passion and deception that gradually unfold amid the chaotic but comedic preparations.

As the romantic monsoon rain looms, the extended Verma family reunite from around the globe for a last minute arranged marriage in New Delhi. MONSOON WEDDING traces five intersecting stories, each navigating different aspects of love as they cross boundaries of class, continent and morality. The film celebrates a contemporary India never before seen on the screen. The family's hopes, anxieties and long-guarded secrets emerge amid frantic wedding preparations and are juxtaposed with arresting montages of real-life Delhi.
